ebay has an old rusty farmall Mta up for bids nearing $3000 I was wondering why it is such a desired old tractor.

 It means Torque Amplifier in reply to lekander883, 04-02-2007 18:52:16  
The TA stands for Torque Amplifier. If it's at $3000, that is dirt cheap for a MTA. They are a very desired tractor because there are very few around and they were only made in 1954 and not many were made. People also liked the Torque Amplifier. The Torque Amplifier almost always needs to be fixed on tractors today. My Dad has a Super MTA and They are nice old tractors.

It is desirable because it was made only one year.So not many made.

Yeah, only 26,000 or so... the 400 and 450 are quite a bit more rare, and definitaly the 350 diesel, and many other tractors...

The Super MTA was the first IH tractor with a TA - Torque Amplifier (a shift on the go system that gave you two speeds in each gear) - the SMTA was also the first IH with independent PTO.
