MY H WOULDN'T MAKE A POP EITHER. I FIGURED OUT I WAS 180 DEGREES OFF ON THE TIMING. SOON AS I CHANGED IT, IT STARTED RIGHT AWAY. GAS DRIPS FROM THE CARB WHEN I CHOKE IT EVEN THO I HAVE REBUILT IT. IT ONLY TAKES A VERY QUICK CHOKE AND IT POPS RIGHT OFF NOW.

Nope.

You might have to take the valve cover off and crank the motor to be sure that you are at TDC on #1 cylinder's firing stroke. You will see the exhaust open and close, the intake open and close, and both rockers will be a little loose. The timing mark will line up with the pointer, and the mag rotor should point to the #1 plug wire.

The other case is that you are choking it too much. On your first try to start it, leave the ignition off, pull the choke rod all the way out, and give it two cranks. Push the choke all the way in, open the throttle 6 or 7 clicks, turn the ignition on, and crank it over.

You need to bring that No1 piston to TDC on the compression stroke as I described earlier, then see where the rotor is pointing. Are you sure the
sparkplug wires are installed in the correct firing order? When you look at the mag's cap they should be in this order. This is very important.
2-1
4-3
Are you getting any fire at the sparkplugs? Pull one of the plug wire's off while someone try's to start the engine. The wires, rotor or cap can cause a no start. Hal

After you crank it does gas run out of the carburator. If not you may not be getting any gas. You can remove the drain plug and see if gas is getting into the carburator. Definitely got to find out if its a spark problem or a gas problem.

Bring No1 piston to TDC on the compression stroke
and then take a look at the rotor and see which plug wire the rotor is pointing to. Are you getting any fire to the plugs? Pull the coil wire from the cap and hold it near a good ground
to see if you have fire here. You will need someone to crank over the engine. Take your ground wire off for the time being. Did you remove the mag from the engine? Hal
