Going to auction tomorrow, hope I bring home the Super A. If I get 'er our Super collection will be complete, well, sort of. (now consists of '53 SH, '53 SC, '54 SMTA)

Bob: It takes roughly 90 tractors to give one of each version of letters series ever built. That takes into consideration super-non super, gas, duel fuel , lp, diesel, Standards, Farmalls and V series.

I know a guy very close to achiving this, last time I talked with him he was at 84, said he needed about 6 more give or take depending on how picky one gets. It has also taken him 40 years. He told me when he started the average restored H cost him $2,500. Today that is pushing $10,000., bear in mind also he hires a lot of professional help.

Like you, personally I'd be quite content with the SA, SC, SH and either SM or SMTA. The nicest looking group of Farmalls ever built. Lowey's styling may have been a big plus, however IH just made it look better on those Supers. I'll give you class A marks for good taste.

I somehow can't imagine having 90 old tractors around, why you'd be busier than a man tending a 100 maple sap trees, catching all the leaky carburators.

Good luck with your attempted purchase!

I have almost one of each size in my collection... just missing the M sized model. I have an A, 2 H's, and a W-9. I would like a complete set someday and might be able to find a use for each one of them, or at least a reason to buy them...

My H (first tractor) is the "working" tractor that has been modified to suit... Dad's H is going to be as original as possible and restored (was his first tractor), the A will be restored someday, hopefully with a Woods finish mower under it to make it useful, the W-9 restored as well - a neighbor bought it new... all it takes is time and money!

I restored 9 on Guy Fay's Farmall Letter Series Tractors book. I thought I had them all but then I find out there were a lot more I could have added but ran out of steam. Try to get 4 or 5 you really like and be very proud.

Good luck. I too am working on a "Super" collection, though a bit more focused. I want a set of '54s. I have, thus far, a '54 Super C, two '54 Super H's (both bought new by two of our neighbors before I was born), and a '54 Super MTA. I too am missing the Super A. Ho well, maybe some day.

Leo

There was an experimental Super B, no production models. The replacment for the B was the C.
