I've had lots of experience operating both a regular Farmall H and a Farmall Super H. Although all available resources say that the Super H is bigger, I can't find the difference. One spurce says the H has 24 on the pto and the Super H has 32 on the pto. Both the tractors I drove had original engines and had had an easy farm life. As far as I could infer both tractors performed exactly alike, they souded the same struggled equally under the same strenuous workload what might I be missing?

Yeah, the Super H is about 6-8 horses stronger than the older gas regular H's and it's really noticeable. I once mounted my HM-438 4 row cultivator on my neighbor's Super H to try it out. Well, the Super could push it okay, but after usually having this cultivator on my Super M, the Super H felt overloaded and a little unsteady under the weight of this cultivator. My neighbor thought the same thing. I would have never thought of mounting the cultivator on my regular H....I doubt if it could have pushed it very fast at all, and probably been a really poor matchup. Regular H's were never rated to handle 4 row equipment...but the Super H was...sort of, in good conditions. Super H's are a pretty powerful, nimble tractor with a great selection of speeds in their 5 forward gears.

haveing both a Super and a regular H I can say that there is a noticable diffrence between the two. The the Super H in my opion has better lugging ablity. Both are great tracotrs though.

The H has about 25 drawbar HP, the Super H about 31, these are IH ratings. The reason you do not seem to see a lot of difference in performance is that the SH is geared faster, particularly in 3rd and 4th gear. Without looking up exact figures, as an example 3rd in the H is 4 1/8 mph, in the SH 5 mph. With the same implement in the same soil, the SH should pull it in 3rd about as good as the H, but the ground speed is faster, but the tractor will feel about the same and pull about the same amount. The speed difference is even greater in 4th, 5 1/8 for the H 6 5/8? for the SH. The speeds are closer together in 2nd, in that gear the SH should pull a heavier load. It also depends somewhat on how the rear tires are weighted. I have not directly compared an H and a Super H with the same load, but I tend to agree with your assesment.

There is about a 30 percent increase in power in the Super over a straight H. Chances are more than good that the H you drove has Over bore pistons and maybe some other tweaking as well to bring it up to Super statas. There is also a chance the super has problems. There is a difference between the two with stock engines.
