I read that the C super C block was the same as A or super A. if so, should I be asking yards for a C block? Also, is the super A and A the same block?

thanks

mar: The block from all Super C and Super A after serial numbers 310000 are the same, and the block part number is 354898 R1. Super A before 310000, A, B and C all share the same block, I don't have that part number.

Farmalls 100 and 200 have block part number 354898 R3. Farmall 130 is 366204 R1 and 140 is 367825 R2. I cant tell you if 230 and 240 are same as 130 and 140 respectively.

Bear in mind everyone of these engines will bolt up to any of the tractors listed, they just require different sleeve and piston kits to match the engine.

George: It just hit me, the change between hydraulic and non hydraulic would account for the different block number. I'm thinking early SA probably used same block part number as the C. the A and B will be different.

Hugh I would assume that is right since the number of my C matches the number mar B has posted as being for a Super A. I don't have a A or super A to look at. The number you gave for Super C matches both of my Super C tractors one is a 52 and the other is 53.

George: I should have pointed that out, during the history of A, B, C and Early SA that block part number changed. What I should have said is I don't know.

The only Farmalls we had before the time of this Super A I have were an H and a W4. I am quite certain of the later ones, however with IH your never absolutely sure they didn't change block mid production of a given model.

Hugh, The only thing I knew for sure was that the blocks in most A and Bs will not take a hydraulic pump like the later Super A and C. I had to go out and look to see what the part numbers were. They come from a 45 model B and a 49 model C both blocks are originals to the tractors I have. I also do not know when the blocks first changed to accept the pump. Maybe someone else can educate us a little as to the time of change.

A Super A or Super AV block and a straight C block would all be the same thing, but others will fit as George listed them below, they would just have a slightly larger bore.

Also keep in mind that a straight A block would not be the same nor would a block from a B, BN, or AV.

The A and Super A blocks are different. The straight A did not have a place to mount hydraulic pump. The block from a Super A,C,Super C,100,130,140,200,230, and so on will work on a suoper A.

The A block and some early Super A blocks were the same, then there was a change either during or after the first year of Super A production, although I don't have the exact serial number in front of me when they changed. Also, a few of the last A's off the line have blocks with Super A engine numbers. I have an A like that.

Most staight A blocks do not have place in them to mount the hydraulic pump. As far as I know all Super As will have the hydaulic pump mount on them. This is one of the things that make it a Super. They were both C113 CI. I suspect some of the last straight As might have had the newer block.
