Would like to replace the Mag. on my 48 M.D with a distributor set up. Anyone ever done one? Have heard the distributor rotates opposite of a gas engine. If so anyone have a line on one? Any info on this project would be appreciated.

I had a good distributor earlier, but sold it on eBay. It had no advance at all. All the advance mechanism was gone, and the shaft was solid, not split like in a gas application.

yes the gas mag runs clock - wise, and the diesel runs counter clock-wise,the mag can be made to run either direction but you would need a blue ribbon shop manuel to learn how to do it. or find a old timer at one of the dealers,he would no how to do it.

Smd, SMDTA, 400D 450D, SWD6 and some others may be dist equipped. They do not need much in the way of advance, but the y do turn opposite. If in a pinch, a gas dist could be workable by locking the advance mechanism with a screw through the spring plates. Then timing it so it starts. (gap is .020")

Better check the rotation of the mag and see which way the rotor turns i have heard that the gears in the MD make the mag turn counter clockwise. Just get the mag to work.
