This is what Case/IH has posted on Case/IH company history site..... ..
1985..In a dramatic move to increase market position, Case through its parent company Tennesco Inc.,aquires selected assets of the International Harvester agricultural equipment operations. This makes case the second largest farm equipment manufacturerin in the industry.

I went to Case IH dealor a few days ago and looked around a little and here is what I saw. There was 11 tractors on the lot in the 40 to 70 HP range and another 8 McCormick tractors in same class. With the exception of Perkins engines the back end of tractor on both makes are genuine IH. They look just like the back end of our 484,574,584 and dads 685. That must say something about IH design and engineering. No matter what Case guys say.

George, check out a Case-IH Magnum sometime. The rear half is pure IH, just a 5088 rear end modified into a full powershift.

Yea I have seen them. It is my understanding That the Magnum and Maxxum were designed prior to the buyout By IH engineers, But Case folks will not own up to that. Other than the Perkins engines in those smaller tractors they also are pure IH.

Just one guy running his mouth and double posting. Otherwise most of what the others posted is accurate.
