I had the original (to me) drawbar welded up and replaced the bent aftermarket one. The old roller is shot - worn on the inside and outside. I think some guys had just used a strap instead. Any thing that I should know about replacing the roller ?

I never use the swinging feature, just offset it for plowing and digging potatoes.

Greg

As stated earler the'39 thru '52 came with the strap..... srarting with the '53 puper tractors came with the tappered roller.....many of the older tractor ouners replacer the strap with the roller type.....However the swinging drawbar was an option, but most came with them..... Don

I think a strap was standard issue, the roller was optional. Actually, the entire swinging drawbar was optional. The standard drawbar was just the horseshoe.

The Roller is (probably) not worn. The roller is much fatter in the middle than it is at either end. Maybe 1/4" smaller. If this is the way it looks it is fine. I would use the roller. When using a tilage tool with the tractor turning is much easier when loose. (plows not included) The effective pull point is thus infront of the rear wheels and turning becomes immediate. There is less chance of implement link/tongue/drawchains and rear wheel interaction (very dangerous). Pushing in the clutch with a 16' spiketooth drag resting on top of the rear tire is a mind adjusting event. JimN

The roller that is larger diameter in the center than at each end is an optional or aftermarket item. Most of the rollers I have seen, even those that I know are original, are NOT larger in the center.

I have one of that style hanging on my shop wall, I can't use it because the center is totally worn out.

I was with this tractor off of the truck at age 4. It never had any other than a tapered roller on it. Might be an option, but it is a Stage I SH 1953. Optional it was, but from the dealer. :-) JimN
