Pretty much got the lower (easy) part done.
traced a pattern out of card board then wood. tranfered that to 1/2 inch steel plate. Cut it out with a plasma cutter. I figured out I am not worth a crap measuring bolt hole onto steel plate. Not a one was right the 1st time.

Here are a couple photos so far.

I think you did a fine job on it and I don't think I'd exactly call it booger welding, Its always easy for a non player to criticize when they arn't on the field.

Gary in Mozarks:
I'm not sure how you think I'm a non player since you don't know me. I've been a certified welder for over 20 years. I've fixed plenty of booger welds like the one I commented on, because they failed.

I hope you didn't pay for the booger welding job on that piece.

you gotta wonder why a 706 was ever made so stripped down like this. try finding a basic stripped down tractor today--the only option in the matter you have is open platform. weird anamolies in the automotive world back in the day too. was it a "hitch delete" option? i've always assumed some type of lift with rockshaft was standard equipment on those--or was the lift actually the option that the dealers just stocked to promote an upsale, much like the car dealers and the "packages" they stock?
what's this tractor's history? i'm envisioning an old timer replacing his M or W9, who maybe bought the belt pulley option too. it still has a rear hydraulic pump right?
i think i'm falling in love with it...:)

Actually its not to rare to find them strait draw bar around here. I suspect in its working life it spent most of its time on tillage pulling a trailer plow and a disk. It does have the hydralic pumps just none of the hitch parts.

One of these days I will find a rear end with a bad motor and put this motor on it.
I priced the parts needed to update this thing. Even used it was cost prohibative.

different experiences. i think you're within an hour or less of me, and i've never seen one in person except maybe a salvage rear at gotvald's in hilman. (MN) of course i stick to the family's farm and don't go to any sales or anywhere for that matter...wisconsin? where's that? is it real? ;-) the only thing my dad has seen was a 6 or 756 a neighbor had where the fash hitch was removed in anger after getting stuck... not sure how getting stuck is caused by a 2pt or 3 pt hitch but to each his own. email's open for a chat

In some parts of the country, 3 point hitches weren't used much until just recently. Our biggest tractors back then, bought new, were a 656 in around '71, and an 886 around '79 or '80. Neither had a 3 point hitch. In our country, "big" tractors like that's main purpose was and is to feed hay, and they pulled either a haysled or later a chain-type stackmover, both of which hooked onto a regular drawbar. Back when we fed with the haysled(up to about '78 or so), our tractors, and most everyone in the area's feeding tractors, had a custom built pto-driven winch on them used to winch haystacks onto the haysled. A 3 point hitch would have to have been removed to mount the winch, so most people around here ordered tractors without 'em.

For what is worth I'm impressed. I don't recall what you are starting with. Are you converting a 2 pt to 3 pt or are you starting from scratch? What is involved with the top, you said you did the easy part already? You're way ahead of where I might be.

Starting with just a strait draw bar 706.
No hydralics for the rear or lift arms.

So I still need to make bracket and bearings for lift arms and figure a mount for the cylinder.

I have that all figured out except the best mount for the lift cylinder.
