I looked at a #100 spreader recently for $500. The right fender was replaced with a homeade one, wheels & tires shot and the floor rotted out. Is it worth it? What are the odds of finding a fender for it?

Well, I found a fender for mine by putting an ad in the YT classifieds. It was rusty and had been patched, but I made it look decent with fiberglass and Bondo. One problem was shipping the fender. Because it is oversized, I could not get a decent deal. Shipping was more than the guy wanted for the fender. Finally ended up that a friend going that direction to a show picked it up for me. I think in the condition you describe that $500 might be a bit much. The one I got sounds similar to yours, floor rotted out, tires shot, some of the operating mechanism stuck with rust and the sheet metal sides had to be replaced. However, mine did not cost anything, as it was in the family. These things in working condition are in demand and restoration is not real expensive so maybe $500 is not too bad, but I'd try to get it cheaper. The bar tread tires are around $75 each. You can make the floor (be aware that the spreader is a little wider at the back than the front when you are making the boards for the floor) if you have any woodworking skills. Drag chain parts are available, except you would have to make the cross bars I think. I only needed tires, metal for the sides and wood for the bottom, paint, drag chain links, a roller chain and a bunch of bolts, nuts and washers. One of these restored will easily bring $1000, maybe more.
