I know they are small, my 9 yr old son has a cub we were going to restore, my BIL just gave me a AV, would you restore the AV, as opposed to the cub? I think the AV is a bit more rare?. and should be able to do a little more work? at least haul a wagon.. whats your thougts,, both need about the same amount of work, mechanically sound but tin needs attention, paint ,, tin is straight on both.

I would restore the Cub first. In just about a day you can have it split aprt and stripped down to bare bones. Then again seeing as the Cub is your son's tractor I would ask him which one to restore first.

I did ask him over dinner last nite, he said he would do the AV,, the thing is we have been talkingabout it for 1 1/2 years now, and this summer I want to do it with him.. I see you are right about having it stripped fast though, I have one in teh shop now that is going to be parts after I found the valves and pistons froze, may still be salvagable .. havent got into it further than that.. buit it didnt take long to have it down to bare bones..

The Cub is not much of a tractor. The AV will do twice as much work. However, be aware that the AV is a high clearance tractor. As such, it is somewhat top heavy and can be hazardous if you have hills, etc. The advantage to restoring the Cub however is that the parts are not very heavy and it's easy to work on as a result, not requiring near the lifting equipment, etc that you need with a larger heavier tractor. Also if you are going to show it, it's possible to haul the cub in the back of a long bed pickup truck.

I would do the AV because it will probably manage to be worth what you put in it in the end. Cubs are fairly common compared to an AV...

I think an AV would get more attention at a show as well, plus more power, faster road gear, etc.

do the AV, it's a good tractor and very similar to how the cub functions. easy project.

Surely you aint going to sell your sons tractor are you. Then again I tried to give both my sons a tractor a piece and they told me that wasn't their thing.
