Have been reading some older postings regarding retrofit of Char-Lynn power steering on Farmall H. I have two H's with loaders (working tractors) and because of a recent injury I find it necessary to add power steering. I have found a source for everything I need, but info on couplers is scarce and the price, $85 - $100, seems out of line----from pictures , they seem to have a splined sleeve inside with a knuckle inside that. I understand the theory for that but; #1. is that really necessary? #2. Has anyone tried a simple 7/8" sleeve with two bolt holes? #3. Dumb question: Do I need two of those fancy couplers or just one? #4. Does anyone have a topside picture or sketch of an actual Char-Lynn unit mounted on the steering shaft?
Thanks for the opportunity to use this forum and thanks in advance for any help!

Thanks to all 3 of you for your fast replies and helpful input! This forum is a really great resource. Just one question for Steven@AZ. Is that angled mount bushing available somewhere or must I have one made?
Thanks again.

You can get them from Steel Wheel Ranch for around $70 I believe. I had a local machine shop make mine for $15 (about 4 years ago) from the pictures and measurements of 3.135 round,0.722 at the thickest and 0.085 at the thinnest parts, depth cut in for the shoulder is 0.160

I also left the torque generator with them so they could make sure it fit.

You need the torque generator, angled mount bushing, stub shaft, and one of those splined couplers. I believe the purpost of the splined coupler is to allow some give between the torque generator and steering shaft so as not to put extra stress on it...

oem tractor parts has the couplers for about 60.00. i have char lynns on my h, 2 ms, and w-9. there is a bracket that the torque generator bolts to that also holds the gauges, then you cut a section out of the lower steering shaft the lenght of the torque generator and coupler. next time i get out to the barn i will see if i can get some photos of the set up.
