Hey guys

Here is my problem. I have a 340 no TA but has fast hitch and live pto. It also has two remote hydraulics levers. It has the side mounted pump. My problems are as follows. I have no hydraulics at all. I refilled the tractor with new fluid. I also primed the pump through the set screw on top of it. Still nothing. Another problem is the pto when engaged runs smooth but when it is out of gear there is a whining sound that sounds similar to a hydraulic pump. Finaly there is a slight knocking sound coming from behind the clutch. Everything works well however the gears all shift the clutch works well and properly. Any Ideas on where to start.

Thanks in advance
Chris

Hey Chris,

I'd start with Jim's advice. Another thing to check on your PTO is how the screws are set for engaged/disengaged. There are two above the PTO unit. The front is your engaged setting. The rear screw is the PTO brake. If the engage screw is too tight the brake will fight it and you may get the noise you describe. Happened to me.

The hydraulic pump may have sheared a key on the input shaft. The pump is seperate drom the other engine driven components so getting at it is simple. Other factors may be a stuck open relief valve in the control circuit, or a plugged up intake screen. The clutch noise could be a loose or worn PTO drive coupler (where the TA would be if it was there. Some have gone bad in the past. Good luck, JimN
