Can anyone tell me how many years did they make this tool box for the farmall H. It mounts on the light bar, but then length wise it has a bracket that hangs the tool box on the steering shaft, the tool box is hinged in the middle so you have two access doors on either side of the steering shaft, or another way to say it, you can access your toolbox on either side of the tractor with a separate lid for each side. I have never seen one like this before, its always been the kind that mounts on the light bar only, but this one hangs out on the steering shaft. Is there any down sides to having this type of toolbox? I haven"t bought it yet, but the guy who has it, says its original. My farmall H is a 1942, not trying to be a purist but wonder if I should put this on my tractor, or just buy it and think about it later. He is asking $100 for it....

One you mention is aftermarket as far as I know. Down side on the few I saw was steering shaft wear at place strap went around it or strap worn out. Also it would put a little drag on steering if much weight is in tool box.

the 'lightbar' style toolbox was not available while your h was in production.

I have a 44 H and it has original light bar box on it. I think it was a option through out production. I dont know about the other one.

Hi,
I just Googled "Farmall H toolbox". Top of the list was several Ebay listings.I'm at work and ebay is blocked, so I can't see what they look like. You could try it yourself and, at least, get some price comparison. I bought a couple of nice boxes off ebay that are tough and look real nice for the price ($10 buy now). Maybe you can still find them for a comparison. They are a perfect sixe to mount with all of them holes along the frame of these tractors. Description is "16" Red Toolbox, Tractor Mountable, For Charity"

Good Luck

Dave
