Andy, in Madera CA owns an MCH. On a recent jog I found this MCH near my house, so I grabbed some pictures for him, and thought I would share them here. The guy who owned it explained how it worked, which was really interesting. This thing was complete and running when he parked it 20 years ago after a heart attack. He hasn't farmed since. It would be a heck of a restoration project for someone with more room than just a garage!

Hello wardner,

like biggerred mentioned that main(drum)drive assy powers the picker head and the blower fans, and is only used on cotton pickers, it mounts in the same spot as a belt pulley assy would, this main drive assy can be used on a single or double blower 1 row picker with simple modfications, by adding a piece and removing another. i can e mail you a parts list breakdown for that part if you want to see it.

Jess, ( jess in ca )

Hello mike ca,
I just saw your pics of the M 12 H cotton picker,
I have collected up several old IH 1 row"s over the years, will the owner sell it ? i am in Los Banos about 45 miles from madera. this one had been raised up 1 ft to dump in the taller cotton trailers, this was a common modfication back in the mid 50"s to the early 60"s. so this pickers actual height with that modfication is 13ft 6in. you notice that galvanized air duct, there was a machine shop doing that between madera and the fresno area. this was suppose to get more air to the radiator.
i have seen about 10 or so set up that way over the years. i got one that way and took all that ugly crap off of it, but i saved it for historical purposes, Jess

Wisconsin Historical Society has picture of M 12 H picker running in field in 1948 and doing excellent job. The new pickers are mostly 6 rows, much faster and will pick 20 times as much cotton in a day as the old ones but they do not pick any better.

They had one at the Rock River Thresheree in the oringinal Texas shine. Sweet! I say you buy it now bc you never know if you will get the chance again. Find a buddy with some room and buy a portable shed and put it under there.

Thanks for the pictures.

Looks like there are three PTO points coming from the center of the tractor. I like to know more about that hardware. One looks like it comes from the center section similar to an Electrall. Maybe I'll have to buy a MCH parts book.

That gearbox powered the blower (which blew the lint into the basket), and the header (picking unit) I restored a Highdrum M last year, and I have a Highdrum 400 picker tractor I"m working on now.

That thing is about 20' tall! I have barely enough room in my garage for my H. I live on a 1/4 acre that has no room for tractors. So, while the thought of the completed project crossed my mind, the reality that there is no way I could do it or keep it quickly shoves its way forward.
