Got another question on an 1941 H. Bought new belts and put a generator on in place of an alt i had to use on a welder. Now the hood was not on the tractor when the alt was on it . With new belt the hood will still not fit. the generator does not have an adjustable pulley. What is it going to take to get my hood to fit? the new belt is 31+ inches and was ordered from napa from the book. the gen stickes too far out for the hood latch. I don't know if i can stretch a shorter belt on it.

Found a pulley local and there is quite a bit difference in diameter also besides being adjustable.

You need the correct mounting bracket, and you need the adjustable pulley on the generator. Your other choice is to move the generator you have as close to the engine as possible, even right up against the valve cover, and then measure for a new, shorter belt.

How much clearance do you have between genny and engine block? Maybe you need a different bracket. If you are using same bracket that altenator was on you need a shorter one and a shorter belt should work.

Gene, sent you mail. The original mounting bracket was still on the tractor. It was a cobbled up mess with the alt bolted to the side of it and some weird looking adjustment bracket sticking way out from the top radiator bracket.
