I can"t believe you were over on the Deere board discussing borrowed green tractors-is nothing sacred-I question all now. My faith is shattered. Boo-Hoo

E.B. Since when did going to the Deere board become against the law. I go there quite regularly. These damn tractors are only as good as that dealer right in your home town. I farmed with Farmalls, Case, Cockshutt and Deere. Allan only thinks he can't afford a Deere, if he bought one, he would be pleasantly surprised.

Well my perception of tractor peoole has always been that you were of one camp, and one camp only. Look at this board, how is it divided? The only area for common ground is in tractor talk, the rest of the boards are segregated by brand. Considering the amount of red running around in his picture posts I was shocked to witness his operating many different brands of tractors, so I think I'm giving up this internet thing there just troublig things to witness out there. The things I've seen here.

I agree with Hugh my first love was a 1950 A John Deere, still like them warts and all. Went to a Blue Grass festival couple of years ago and they had a near perfect JD AR powering a sawmill and I listened to the tractor more than the music. That does not mean that I do not like Red tractors I have 3 letter series tractors, Dad went to the other Red (Masseys) about 1960 and I really liked the Massey 1100s.

E.B. Oh, and how much does IH, now an out of business company pay you for this type of advertising.

I'll tell you something, I've been around farm equipment since I was old enough to walk, probably 63-64 years ago. I've yet to see what I call a perfect tractor, it just hasn't been built by anyone. Now if I look at the 8 to 10 major companies that were around in 1960, each and everyone of them had at least one feature I liked.

IH just had too many booboos to make them an exclusive on any farm.

Farmall for Culti-vision. Makes it lot easier to bed a small garden with a tractor when you don't have to turn around to watch the bedders!. Also, Internationals seem to last forever. My 1954 Super C with the original 6-volt ignition system is still a VERY reliable tractor.

The old two-cylinder John Deere for overall reliabiltiy and ease of service, as well as sheer, unadulterated pulling ability. I've seen our old MT run under conditions which would stop any other tractor. Almost scary what these tractors will do. Also has the bedders where you can see them, which is nice.

At one time I would have said Ford for ease of operation, back when they had a monopoly on the three-point hitch. An 8N still has a certain charm, but try and check the points on one! And my 2600 starts VERY easily for a Diesel.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot, the Oliver for looks and not much else. Just seeing an Oliver in the field with the sheetmetal off would make my Grandfather laugh out loud.

But teevee directors just LOVE the Oliver. Look how many you see in commercials!

Personally, I think both the Raymond Lowey Farmall and the Norman Bel Geddes John Deere are much more important than almost any other tractors from an industrial-design-history standpoint.

But that green and white Art Deco sheetmetal on the Oliver impresses assitant directors more than any other feature on any other tractor, almost every time.

Pickin' on Allan, Hugh, not selling anything. I can't afford anything red, or green for that matter.

E.B. If you really want to pick on Allan, why not ask him how much money he's making off his farm investment in Nebraska. That should bring a roar out of him, we'll hear all the way to the east coast.

You know, Allan can say one thing, there is definitely money in farming. Just ask him.

You're probably right, I don't work at farming full time. I've sunk thousands into equipment for a purpose that won't really payback, so I ask "Why do I enjoy it?"---Insanity.
