Hi folks, Well the messing around in the garage for the last 3 months couple hours a day, finally the M runs. Well it idles any ways, I have just spent the last hour messing with the carburator and timing I gave up for the night. I cant seem to get the engine to rev up with out throwing the choke to 3/4 closed and then it will rev up and I can open the choke a little but not much. Any ideas, is one of my jets still plugged?

Thanks in advance Derek

Try opening the main jet adjusting screw near the bottom of the carburetor. Hal

Yes, the carb is lean. If fuel runs out of the float valve (needle and seat) with the bowl off and a can under it strongly for 3 minutes, filling a quart can, the fuel supply is OK if not it needs to be cleaned in the sediment bowl, lines, or screen at the carb.
If fuel supply is great,
Depending on the carb it should have a adjustment on the needle for high speed (bottom front of bowl) if this is ineffective, it is either a low float level, or plugged up jets/passages. Jim N

May I also add, wow what compression this engine has, I tried hand cranking it, their is no way of getting it to turn by hand, is that normal? and pleased to add an unbeliveable 55-60 oil pressure!

If it has domed pistons, it will be difficult to turn over by hand with a hand crank. Otherwise, yes, it should turn over by hand pretty easy. M's are hard to turn over with the hand crank because you have to push it in and turn at the same time. I think that is the main reason why you never see one on the tractor and instead find it buried under dirt at the back of the shed or propping up a window somewhere. If you have 55 to 60 psi at idle, that isn't too bad, and the motor will have a lot of life left. Expect it to drop more after it gets warm though. Our M drops down to about 40 or so at idle, which is lower than I like, but it still runs great, so I am not touching it. Our W6 (standard tread version of an M) makes 70 at cold start up and 60-65 after a day's worth of work.
