I have the front end and rails off of my 400 and am ready to pull the engine. Where is the best/safest place to hook the chains to the engine when pulling it out. I have done quite a bit of mechanical work, but this is the first time that I have actually pulled an engine off. All advice is appreciated.

Thanks

I would do as Randy suggested using the head bolts
to make your lift. When I did a tractor I rented
a cherry picker from our local rental company. It came disassembled on a pallet. I said I need at least a 2 minute instruction on assembling this. It wasn't that hard to assemble once you had seen it done. It was rated at 2 tons and didn't take very long to pull the engine. I rented it again when I had the engine rebuilt.Hal

here is what i did took a piece of 3/8 steel and drilled 2 holes into it where the valve cover bolts are. Then turned another piece on end and welded it to it and drilled a hole for the chain of the cherry picker. Worked good when I found the center of the weight.

You might think of removing the head and as much of the accessories as possible to lighten the load. Otherwise I would remove the valve cover and remove a head bolt from opposite corners. Use longer bolts in the head and use these to fasten the lifting chain to. As always, be safe.
