Very Frustrated with the B. Took governer off and replaced springs, needle bearings and so forth, put it back on and the thing is still running wide open. I did agjust the linkage like the book said. I have to manualy hold the lever towards the radiator to make it idle down and even then it is still to fast. It seems the longer it runs it gets worse. The slightest movement of the linkage towards the carb and it sounds like an airplane about to take off. Help!!

Check the screws in the throttle plate in the carb. If they are loose & one is missing it won't idle down either.

Get the book(s). There are also governor RPM adjustments that limit how far the flyweights can go. On the ouput link the carb should be wide open when the governor arm hits the stop. You might disconnect the RH link and after you start it you can move the lever by hand and watch the output arm that controls the carb. Slowly moving the lever forward should cause the RPM to go up. Wide open the RPM should be what the book says, that adjustment is in the governor, (on top I believe, the bottom one is a surge dampener). All this assumes the arms on the governor are installed correctly and there is nothinbg else wrong inside it. I use an old style engine analyzer with a clip on for a plug wire. Found it at a pawn shop for $10.

Do yourself a big favor and get the I&T MANUAL fir the tractor it covers how to set the linkage from end to end you dont have the linkage correct or you would not have the symptons you describe.

Gene I agree more than likely it is linkage. However last year while mowing on rough ground the lock nut on the surge bumper of my Super C bacame loose and it wanted to run wide open. It would idle some at dead idle as soon as you gave it a little gas it sounded like that jet leaving. I investigated and found the bumper adjusting screw about to fall out. I screwed it in until tractor ran better and all is well with it now.

Ther is a nut on bottom of governor housing, behind that is a surge bumper and spring. Get your book and it will show all this. If you dont have one you need one, they save a lot of guess work.
