I had work done on the radiator on the H last week. I pulled the shaft out from the universal joint and reassembled it. Later I find I omitted to install the half moon key when putting it back together. I found it later on the shop floor. I was returning to my house, made a left turn and tractor went right...this could have resulted in a BROKEN NECK. I WANT TO SCREAM OUT LOUD...BE CAREFUL WHEN ASSEMBLING THIS THING.

Yikes. So, what exactly happened? When you pulled on the steering wheel a little, the steering wheel and shaft popped out, and you almost fell backwards off the thing?

Holy Mackerel! First, the bloody, terrifying "buzz saw thumb incident"; now, the infamous "nearly broken neck steering linkage incident". And, still no GREENHOUSE report!!! You are one of the most colorful, (and likeable), guys on this forum. When is the next exciting episode being released? (Actually, your stories sound an awful lot like mine.) BE CAREFUL. We would miss you! mike

Man tom, I bet you had to change your pants after that. That would scare the hell out of me!!
Hope you werent going very fast, and glad to see you are ok. Tomorrow I finish buttoning up my car from the tranny swap, lets hope I dont forget anything. Bad thing is I got a crapload of bolts left over becuase of tearing apart the donor cars engine, haha. The main bearings were like gone!! Guess thats what happens when u run it for a month with no oil pressure, haha.

I had a similar situation on my 350 - only I couldn't get the squeeze collar to "grip" after assembling. I had nearly tumbled backwards off the seat and pulled the steering column loose. After that it wouldn't even come close to fitting tight. I eventually tightened it the best I could then drilled a hole through the collar and steering rod and inserted a small bolt.
