I have never owned/operated a diesel that you start on gas and switch over to diesel. How do they start in cold weather? Does the gas option eliminate the need for a block heater or either?

When we had the cows to feed we used ours on the feeding wagon everyday and it would get down to -20 and more started everyday just the small gas tank is a pain always out of gas. ran day and night on the dryer in the fall cheapest tractor to run as far as fuel consumption goes about40-50 gallon a day on 24 hrs drying around the clock.

I plowed snow with my "47 MD last month when it was 5 degrees F. Started fine, did let it warm up for about three minutes before I switched it over to diesel. If maintained correctly, they work great. Brian

Trying to get my sons super MD started. What is the procedure for starting a Super MD diesel? What postion should the lever on the left be to start on gas, front or back? Also what position should the top lever be in to start on gas. Thanks

Had a SMTAD. Started with ease on gas, let it run on gas a minute or so switch it over and go. Kind of amazing for it's time.

Glenn if they are in good shape in proper time with a good clean carb they start fairly well. I have one that starts good down to around 20 degrees. I have heard other folks talk about theirs not starting at 40 degree's. When it gets very cold here I use one of the old gasser's to ekiminate starting problems they start all the time. The deisels are expensive to work on.
