Hello all! Just wanted to ask if anyone had ever put a radiator water filter system on their letter series tractors? I just purchased one on ebay that is a Fram from the 50's that I got for a mere 2.99 and 10.00 to ship. Has new looking filter body, instructions, and all the fittings to install; in the original box! Will be putting this on the Super C as a neat accessory. Anyone else have one of these set-ups? Patrick

Although they are called water or coolant filters, their primary purpose is not filtering the coolant, but rather to replace the additives in the coolant in a convienent manner as they are used up. The filter material in most filters is actually a screen and does more to insure that the additives are completely dissolved in the coolant before leaving the filter rather than to trap any material already in the coolant.

It will not hurt to put it on an old low horse power tractor but it will not do much good either. Better just to regularly replace the coolant every couple of years.

Yes it will do good, you should research before making comments like that. I use to work in the antifreeze industry, and can tell you a regualr coolant filter will prolong waterpump life, even without the additives, which by the way are mainly deisel engines. Im not saying proer maintenece isnt required either, but they will prolong the life if the waterpump, and eventually the engine.

not sure if your tractor has a waterpumpp or is a convection system. If yours has no water pump, I would NOT use the filter, it will be way to restrictive.

Mine has a water pump. I want to cut down on the sediment in the block after the rebuild. Was 1" thick when I opened her up. Patrick
