Big bore kit, Fire Crater Pistons, Stroke it, 8,000 foot head, and Port and Polish.

Hs respond to 350 camshafts, 350 carbs and manafolds, fire crater pistons/shaved head for 150psi compression, electronic ignition, and 92 octane fuel. These are not going to take away life, just give power. The three main bearing engine design can take the 350 stuff + some hopping to HP in the 50s but more is less. JimN

Id say he should tell us more on what he did to it. Its a crap shoot to just guess. I have a 70hp H that I know I can farm with it and not worry too much bout it at the end of the day. I used IH parts to build it so I know its IH tough!! LOL! I have a H thats in the low 100's in HP at the pto, ran for years till the block split. The crank looks as good as the day we put it together, still well with in specs. All IH parts in that engine too! Old Farmalls dont die, they just lose way evey once in a while.

If that engine is new, he needs to break it in before any tuning is done. Will fight the tuning during break in process. Warm it up, retorque every bolt that requires a specific torque,,, (head, manifolds etc etc) then put about 10-15 working hours on it. After that, run a compression test, and go from there. Everything Jan said for parts is right on the money! Makes a fun tractor out of it that can do work or play! JMHO, ChadS

Check puller forum, search archives for Chad S postings. Some of his also on IH board. will give tips on using super H carb and governor springs, settings, distributor work- good for a couple extra hp. He also has magor engine tips as head milling, cam- that requires basicly doing rebuild. The drawbar setting, tires pressure and external engine tips would give you some low cost fun without blowing engine, still have usable tractor to cultivate sweet corn patch and mow hayfield. RN.

The real deal is getting the power you have to the ground. Set your draw bar hooking point has high and close to the rear axle as allowed. Make sure your draw bar is rigid and does not give or flex. Play with your rear tire pressure and look at the tracks left by your tires in the track. You want a flat bottom to the track in the dirt as wide as your tires.

As for extra power, loosen your generator or alternator belt before pulling, use a dry element air cleaner instead of the oil-bath, use a straight pipe instead of a muffler, make sure your governor is working correctly and set at the maximum rpm allowed. If you used over-sized pistons you might need to drill out the main jet and load tube to get the right fuel mixture. You could also try larger venturis in the carb.

I have a stroker H that could. Dont know how long the differential would last, but the engine had enough power to do so. What would it have to weigh to do that? 10,000? Chad

I'm going to one-up McCoy and say: a W9.

Really, most of us settle for running. Some of us are pretty fussy and expect running without burning oil. The real connoisseurs among us expect stock horsepower.

There's not much you can do for more power out of that tractor without tearing the engine down again. You should've asked for tips BEFORE spending all that money to rebuild the engine.
