Hi all, Ive got a 1949 Farmall Cub that Ive started having problems with. It quit running a while back, and I cant get it to start again. I replaced the coil, points, condensor, and rotor button. It gets fire, I took a spark plug out and turned the engine, and it sparked. If i turn the engine over about 10 times, fuel will start pouring out from the carburetor. I took it apart and cleaned it, thinking maybe trash was causing the float to stick, but its still doing it. I dont know if a rebuilt kit would help. What do yall think would be causing this? Have yall ever had this happen? Any information is greatly appreciated. Greyson

If the plugs got fuel fouled, you just need to replace them, if you have fuel, fire and air it should run, can't be but three things, fuel, fire, and air, change the plugs.

Some engines will dump gas when there is no start condition and you keep crankin". Did you try dry plugs? Did you try a l ittle ether?

I would do the compression check as mentioned and compare the readings. Since you have fire at the
plugs, pour about a teaspoon of gas into one of the cylinders and then see if the engine starts.
If it does, it's an indication there's no gas being pulled into the intake manifold. The carburetor may need a thorough cleaning in carb cleaner and blow air thru the jets. I would install a rebuild kit too. Have any of the sparkplugs been wet?

Before you do this, bring No1 piston to TDC on the compression stroke. Hold your thumb over the plug hole while someone hand cranks the engine. Drop a screwdriver in the hole with a large handle once you feel compression against your thumb. Watch that screwdriver until it quits rising. Be sure to use one with a large handle
and once the piston is at TDC, remove the cap off the distributor or mag and see where the rotor is pointing. Should be at the No1 plug tower. This is to see if something jumped time. You can have fire and still be out of time. Hal

you probably should change at least the needle and seat on the float and then check the float adjustment. if its apart, you can throw a rebuild kit in it, wouldnt hurt. other thing i would do is put in a new set of plugs. if that doesnt get it, run a compression test and see how each cylinder is. you may have some valves sticking if it hasnt run in a while.
