I changed one of my 140's over with a 10 SI. Turned it upside down and mounted the short Alternator mount to the front of the tractor's front generator mount (had to drill out from 1/4" to 3/8"). Used a 2 1/2" long 3/8" bolt. Pulley's lined right up. Had to make a special bracket to get the tighteneing brace to fit. Everything fit right in without modifying the shroud.

Use the 3 wire set up with diode. Works great. Puts out up to 63 amps at 14.5 volts. Also went to electronic ignition and high output coil, both bought from this site. I'm pleased.

thanks for all the feedback guys. I'll probably get the 10si like old recommended and go from there.

I think that would be best. The only kits I could find were for the Hs and Ms. Another hint, if you replace the original ignition coil with a new 12 volt with internal resistor, you can forget that little ceramic resistor block.

The Steel Wheel Ranch, 785-548-7437, steelwheelranch.com, advertises 12V change over kits for farmall tractors. The ad I have does not give specific models. mike

Not all that hard to do. I did one this past summer. I used a Delco 10si alternator and did the wireing my self. If you check the arcives you should be able to find more then one diagram for wiring it up

Your generator might just need new brushes. If it's worse than that, you might find the conversion kits right here on YT. If you can't find it here, I might be able to help.

checked here first but didn't see anything for the 340. This tractor works year 'round and I'm not planning to show it so I'd like to step up to 12 volt. the generator giving out is just a good excuse - easier sell to the missus.
