Lots of friends have been converting points and IH electronic dizzys to Pertonix on IH 345 V8s. These engines just cook the dizzy and the stock electronics (Prestolite) for example are famous for intermittent open circuts. The Pertonix works great. Other friends have converted old IH tractors with the Pertronix and they claim it starts and runs better than ever (original owners).

If your original distributor is in good shape and you're just tired of messing with points, a good alternative is the Pentronixs(sp?) electronic conversions....everyone on this board that has tried one has posted real positive results.

I think you can even buy 'em through this board somewhere, look around for a "parts" link.

As a side note, a local mechanic shop here has converted 4cyl GM HEI distributors to work on M's....I'd bet that's what Denny's doing...probably other places to buy one than through him.

Do you have a good reason to think you need that type of ignition as the stock one if in shape will be plenty good as they performed great when in good repair it wont necessarly perform and better than what you now have.

The upgrade installs in your old distributor. You don't need a complete distributor unless the shaft and bushing are worn.
GOOGLE "tractor electronic ignition" or go to www.pertronix.com

Definitely not an IH distributor. Something after market. Yes they do have a bad rap. But if you ever delt with them, you'd understand how they got it. I'd rather take a sharp stick to the eye, than deal with them.

I've purchased/used a electronic dist for my 400 that I use for pulling. It works good, and yes, Denny's and the female that answers the phone are not the most customer friendly people to work with.
