I see all of my zerk fittings and do grease them periodicly. I am wondering in the front of my tractor just behind the radiator there is a gasket. It is also connected to a different gasketed area where my throttle comes down to. I took that cover off and noticed a little grease. So I am wondering is there anywhere where I can check how much fluid to add and what kind on my 45 farmall H . Thanks

It sounds like you're describing the governor. If you have removed a D-shaped plate from the left (carburetor) side of the engine, you're seeing a bit of sludge. The governor is lubricated from the oil system of the engine and needs no grease.

I am confused. If behind is defined as being toward the seat of the tractor, not the radiator cap, then there are no gasketed components in the steering system behind the radiator. (unless it has some kind of non-stock power steering on it. The throttle control rod passes a center bearing with a universal joint (at the bulge in the hood) Ith has a fitting through a hole in the hood.

If the gasket is "in front" of the radiator, then that is the worm and sector gear box. Tough steering can be many things, including the bottom of the bolster thrust bearing (where the front wheels mount to the casting area with four bolts. Good luck, JimN

yes I took the cover off where my throttle rod went into and saw bearings and a joint that left that box to another. My question is is there a fluid check point and a place to add fluid and if so what type of lube?

That is only a support bearing it has grease in it from a zerk fitting, no oil fill. If there is a device that looks about 3-1/2" in dia. and 7" long or so, it may be a power steering torque motor. If it is there, and has hydraulic lines going to it, it is a PS unit. If it is there and has no lines going to it it may be an abandoned PS unit that would really add to the slop in the steering, and be hard to turn. In this case if you still are unsure, post a picture. JimN
