Try heating it up heat does wonders for frozen things.

If you look very closely at the bottom casting that supports the radiator and steering bolster, you will see that there is a sleeve that is spring loaded. The best place to see it is if you look up towards the bottom of the radiator from underneath the tractor, looking from behind the radiator towards the front. When you push the crank in, it is supposed to engage the sleeve, which in turn, is supposed to slide forward and engage the lower crankshaft pulley. The zerk fitting that another respondant mentioned that you remove is intended to grease the sleeve.

Mine is frozen too. The zerk removal idea is the best I've heard yet, other than taking the radiator off and heating the sleeve to try and break the rust bond. Will have to try it myself. I have tried to break it loose with grease gun pressure on the zerk, but no luck with that route.

Good luck.

Randy; Push the crank all the way in as tho you were going to crank the tractor. With a pump oil can squirt some oil in on the motor side. Then pull it out and do the same on the out side of the shaft. You should see a world of difference..... ..... ..... Boyd

Hi , The crank on my M was froze when I got it also . I took the grease zerk out and with a small stiff wire poked all the dry grease out of it then sprayed PB into it then a solvent ( Brake cleaner ) then more PB till I could get it to take some grease . I kept twisting it though the entire process . It came free after a long time of this . I tapped on the end of it with a big chunk of hard wood occasionally . It's still stiff but it moves now . I just haven't used it so haven't taken it apart to clean it out yet . Hope this helps . ...Randy

It's hard to tell what has it hung up unless a person sees what the problem is, and only you are there. Do you have a friend that could take a look at it and advise you?
