Just tore down what I thought was a IH 404 motor and found that the crank, main and rod journal specs, don"t match what my IH-201 shop manual says they should be for a 404. The numbers I measured seem to match the specs for a 444. Can anybody tell me whats goin on here? Could the manual be wrong? The crank casting number is 375600R-1. Need to know cause I plan on buying a rebuid kit and want to get the right one. Thanks

What I was trying to say was crank journal dia for 404 in my book says 2.1245. Crank measures 2.620 which is about what the dia is for a 424 or 2424 or 444 or 2444. I"ve nosed around in this forum and I"ve seen some words thta say the later ser num 404 (100501 and above) has a larger dia crank than earlier numbers. I"m beginin to suspect that my manual list specs for older ser num 404. Just looking for confirmation.

The Farmall M had the same situation, they had 2.7474"-2.7485" on the crankshaft main jouranal
up until S/N 278049 and on the rods 2.4975-2.4985".
From S/N 278050 and up the shaft measured 2.8075-2.8085" on the mains and the rod journals meassured 2.5475"-2.5485". Hal
