cowman, we purchased a new 460 gas in 1960 and pulled a 4 bottom 14 inch fast hitch plow about 7 inches deep in Arkansas sandy loam cotton soils while running in third gear. The plow gave the engine a good load and required use of the TA when we hit a tough spot. I can still remember looking out over that long hood and wondering why I.H made this tractor so long - especially compared to the power it produced. A good M or super M could work right along with it.

Pulled a 3 x 16 semi-mounted 2 point plow in heavy clay with our 460 Gas. However the tires were 15.5 x 38's and fluid ballast. Used the 460 for plowing for 12 years.

CHP dbr is 47.99 h.p., belt is 52.19 h.p.

It should pull a 3 bottom plow under most conditions.
