Hey guys,

Last night I went outside to turn my 350 around so I"d be ready for the 12" of snow that is supposed to fall tomorrow. While backing out, I was trying to push a snow bank back a little further to give me another couple feet and I lost traction and one of my tires started spinning.

At the exact same time a clunking noise started in the transmission. I drove it foward 2ft in 1st, back 2ft in reverse and then forward 15ft in 1st before I shut it off. Every time I disengauged the clutch (pushed in the pedal) the clunking would stop, but when would let the clutch out and the wheels start rotating the clunking comes back.

Any idea"s? On what it could be? Any quick ways for me to check before I start tearing into things?

Now I just need to figure out how to move all of the snow out front of the barn so I can get the truck in there to pull the tractor out and get it in the garage to work on it.

As always thanks in advance?

Andy

Andy does it clunk in neutral or just while in gear? If it clunks in neutral its not a wheel. If it makes no noise in neutral it very well could be loose wheels. Put tractor in neutral and release clutch pedal and see what you hear.

I have a H that makes the same noise you describe in second gear. The experts tell me I have a chipped tooth on the second gear. This only happens with no load on it like slowing down to stop. Ed

I agree with Rusty: Most likely a loose rear wheel. Check the hub clamp bolts and the wheel clamps on both wheels - bet you'll find several that need tightening!

Probably the first thing to do is make sure the bolts are all tight. Both where the wheel center clamps to the axle and also the center to rim bolts.
