I'm gonna take apart the steering on the M and see if I can tighten it up a bit. Does any one know if the parts for a narrow front H and M are the same? Mine is a '45 model M. I saw some H parts for sale and I wondered if the steering gear parts are the same. Just trying to plan ahead.

Where do I find these Carter & Gruenewald bushing kits? What else do they have for sale. Armand

carter and gruenewald sells a rebuild kit for the h and m bolsters, has upper and lower bushings bearings seals for about 150.00. that will tighten her up pretty good. its probable that the worm and sector gears are worn out, i replaced them a couple years ago on an m, got them from case i-h, ran about 650.00 for the set

Well thanks for the info, I opened 'er up and it's a little of everything. It looks like I can tighten some bolts on the u joint and I have the 360 degree sector gear so I can just turn it, it had plenty of lube though. The bushings for the bolsters definately need replaced and I think I'm gonna put new wheel bearings in too.

Also--check the u-joints on the steering shaft; a little looseness there gives a lot of slop at the front wheels.

No, not the same. everything on an M is bigger than an H. (except the wheel base, but that is another story)
