I had the block for my SW6TA cleaned at the machine shop. They ordered and installed new cam bearings. Saturday I installed the crank, and went to put the cam in.....won't fit. Mic'ed the bearings...too small. Before I raise he55, what could be the reason for this???? Were there ever undersized cam bearings??

cam bearings for m thru 450 gas engines all the same. i've made a set of plugs to install them but i have always had to hone them to get the cam in.

Each one of those camshaft journal's has a different diameter. They must not have honed the new cam bearings to size or installed the wrong bearings. Hal
PS: I would call the machine shop.

No.1-2.2435" (Front)
No.2-2.1185"
No.3-1.8685"

I am aware of the difference in size through the engine, but, these will only go in 1 way. The bearings themselves appear to be the wrong ones. I am just going to have to drive them out to see what the deal is I guess. I was just wondering if anyone knew of a change between m,super, TA, 400,450, etc. minor, but a change, that may have caused this problem.

I would call the machine shop before removing the new cam bearings. Hal

Hal,
Just got off the phone with mach. shop. He says, Well...I guess I should have told ya to bring the cam with ya... He said he'd fit it. Just kind of a pi55er now that the crank's in it, and 75 miles away.... oh well, if it was easy, everyone would do it.

The machine shop should have a book that list's all the cam journal's dimensions. Hal

He probably installed cam bearings for the H, Super H and W6. No.1 should measure 1.931".
Can you measure it? Hal
