Well, I thought I had hit gold at the local IH dealership. The clip that holds the distributor cap on is in the parts book and we ordered one. The results came back today...item discontinued.

If any of you are in your local dealership in then next while, please ask if they have one on the shelf. I sure need one.

Sounds like you are making progress.

Unless you are a stickler for originality, it does not look like it would be hard to make out of a bit of 5/8" aluminum plate. If you have one for a pattern, a slot and a step, and you're there. Just use it on the backside, and no one will ever know.

You wrote clip, I read clamp...

If you can't find one, the distributor cap clip on my H is about 2 1/2" long, just like the one on our '83 Dodge. You will probably have to modify the mount.
