Flatten the plate as described below. The gaskets should be used to set clearance to between .0008 and .0015" when done, pack the pump with rebuild lube (a pasty fluid like material (one brand is Lubriplate) to prime the pump for rapid pressure build on startup. JimN

I had the same problem, but I just put a water pump on mine to get it to run a little cooler. Never have had another problem with oil pressure. It's easier, faster, and should have one anyway. Mike

The oil pump cover warps.

Folks take a piece of plate glass, lay a piece of emery cloth on it, then sand the pump cover flat.

If it's too bad, or cracked, you'll have to find another oil pump over.

Part Key # 2.

Dave on most old farmalls that is normal. Has yours always done this or is it someting new. I have several old ones and most of them drop oil pressure when hot. I have a C that has done that for more than 30 years and it is still going strong. Try a heavier oil and see if it improves. The bottom of of pump can be tuned a little but you could also ruin it. Bottom cover gasket thickness can also be adjusted ( thicker or thinner) to correct end play in pump gears. If tractors does not knock or peck I dont know if I would be to concerned about it. Especially if oil pressure comes up at high engine speed.

There is plate on the botttom of the oil pump. Over time, the two gears will wear circular grooves into this plate. To increase oil pressure, you remove the plate and have the surface cleaned up by sanding it flat. I have laid 320 grit sand paper on a flat surface and rubbed the plate back and forth until the grooves are gone.

Low oil pressure is very common on A. You did say just how low yours is but if it will hold over 20/25 lbs. at full throttle and stay out of red zone at idle with HOT engine it will run a long time like that. I bought my A about 1964 and the numbers I gave above is about all the oil pressure has ever run and after thousands of hours run time it is stil going strong with no engine work. I bought a new 1977 GMC and oil pressure would fall a little under 30 lbs. on long trip when new (could not get dealer to do anything about it) and the last time I saw it it had 250,000 miles on original engine and was still running good. Probaly 100,000 miles was with 5000 lb. or so trailer.

Sounds like maybe some worn main bearings. Drop the oil pan and check the screen on the oil pump(could be sludged up) but it sounds like main bearings worn if pressure drops after it gets hot.

last 3 i had same way as yours, drop the pan and look at the plate on bottom of oil pump most of the time you will find that there is a small pice of the gasket gone between the plate and oil pump body , i put new gasket in and oil presure came back, no i dont agree that all old farmall's have low oil preasure, just the other way around thats why they last for ever.when you look at those old motors they were built realy well for being born over 70 years ago, they even had a closed draft system on them.

Pay attention to where the gasket is blown out. this is the area where the plate will be warped. After sanding it flat, reinforce it with a small steel bar. I use a piece 1/4" thick and 1/2" wide. You will need to notch it a bit to clear the web on the cover. Drill a hole for the bolt on each end and use longer bolts. When you are ready for the final installation, put a slight bend in the middle of the bar so that the center presses on the cover befor the ends are drawn down. I have done this to quite a few pumps and have never had another gasket failure with any of them.
