Hey guys! :) Well I have a question to ask. Do any of you get large amounts of water in their air cleaners? Currently my tractor sits outside in the weather while I'm in the process of moving. The last two rains filled the bottom bowl of my cleaner upand I can't seem to find out where it's leaking in from. Only thing I can figure is that there should be a gasket or O-ring in the retainer clamp ring????? ??

My B did the same thing. Fortunately I have a shed for it now. In the short time before the shed was avaliable, I used a small tarp tied over the entire engine.

Our 424 did that too, this last winter (settin out) It wouldn't start (which suprised me) eventually I found out that the air clearer was full of ICE and it had totally blocked off the air to the engine. Removed the aircleaner and it started right up.

Patrick: Unless, you have a break in the breather housing or top cap, it has to be getting in around the clamp. The old 560 diesels would suck water in if they were left idling with the right down draft off a building. I've never seen a small gasser do that they just don't suck enough air.

my farmall b would do that too. take a strip of an innertube, about 4 inches wide and long enough to go around the air cleaner with a little left over. put a hose clamp above the retaining clamp for the oil cup, that should do it.

Thanks guys!!!! :) I was worried that I was missing something here! I looked at the prints on the CASE/IH site and didn't see anything for sure.

I think I'm going to slide an O-ring on the bottom of the air cleaner right up under the lip where the cup buts up to. That way as I tighten the clamp it will press these two surfaces together and sandwich the O-ring.
