Does anybody hurt as much as me when they see an old tractor, or combine sitting there all forlorn by itself with no one to give it attention?
Of course you do,
you woudnt be normal if you didnt feel like that, and also get all angry at scrap guy,s that wanna scrap it , or thing,s out just for the money,
I would grab a person by the throat, and throw them away from me if I saw that happen to something,
as Im kind of a mother hen when it come,s to old machinery, and tractor,s,every one I see,
I wanna take it home and coddle it,and make it like new,
Baaaac,bac, bac, bac,
scratch,scratch, scratch,

we have a problem :) lol
well there is a fine line, or large grey area in our case where you are no longer a collector/enthusiast but someone with a real problem. i think as long as the item is either stored or protected to remain functional (or not degrade to a lesser state if it's broken) or you do actually use it and keeping it doesnt cause a health, family or other important hardship, you're fine--keep your priorties in order.
it's important to fight back at our throw-away society, unless of course you're holding onto garbage! unfortunately old implements only have value to someone that wants one. many are so worn that they are not rebuildable and should be considered scrap. but it's hard to keep a sense of reality when you are passionate about something. :) and somebody has to fix a few up so the future knows what used to exist!
an example of the bad side of saving old stuff: my family has a lot of old stuff sitting around the farm not preserved and while i like the old stuff i'd almost rather see it gone since we cant take care of it and have no use for it, but we also have the bad mindset that its worth a lot when in reality every year that it sits neglected probably has actually started to cost us after 30+ years of sitting taking up valuable land for buildings or crops! and everyone that inquires about anything is run off the place on a rail...

this reality check and vent session was brought to you by budweiser and cabin fever...

so anyway have fun collecting!

Kirk, I know what you mean. Every once in a while a junk man comes around my place and act like I should give them my old junk(according to him) I have told them I have no junk, I have relics of history. You should see some of this stuff. To date I have about 120 pieces of junk. I once bid on a 101 IH combine to keep junk man from getting it. I paid $200 for it . that was 13 years ago and it is still here, I got a 2row corn head and a 13 foot grain head with it, I have never used it much but it works like a charm. I have dragged home numerous plows, mowers, cultivators, grain drills, corn planters and about anything IH made. You get the point. I have ran junk men off several times about half hostile with them. I have neighbors that say what are you going to do with that junk, and I say what junk as Fred Sanford would say this is my empire. Alot of this stuff I have no need at all for, but I will continue to save as much as I can. I could go on and on and on, but I will stop rambling now.
