I've always been fearful of doing a paint job. As it stands, yeah its rusty, about 3/4 of the paint is still there, alot covered in grease and oil protecting her metal. If I stripped it all off and repainted it, and the paint started falling off I'd just sell the damn thing. I know prep is the most important, but I just dont trust myself when it comes to paint. I think alot of it is my inexperience with quality paints. Being disappointed from cheap rattle cans even with the best prep leads to disappointment. My friend does ALOT of painting for autos, motos, and so on, uses PPG and House of Kolor, and paints that are over $100 per QUART!!, and he can do a real good job, but I dont think he'd be keen to having a tractor in his shop, if you wanna call it that. He thinks tractors are stupid because they aren't really artisitc when it comes to paint... This is the only tractor that he has said has potential...

I personally thin its ugly and an abomination. When we saw this, I didnt own a tractor, nor gave much thought about them. Now That I have one, I'm in love and cant wait til this summers tractor/steam shows!! Problem is, Who to go with, none of my friends share the same passion, as I'm only 26, besides having few friends =P. Maybe I'll take mom, she likes to get out, god I'm a loser =P

Anyways, enough thread hijacking, that tractor is looking good!!! Hoping my clutch holds up this summer, then maybe next winter I'll split her.

You know, I had that same thought. Ever see one at a show like that? Maybe I'll polish her up and take to the Red Power Round-Up here in Indy this year!

Looking really good there. I have a Super C torn completely down at the present, doing a complete inspection, clean up and reseal of the transmission and rear end. Taking it all down to bare metal for a repaint, too. Pulled the fast hitch out from under it today, and started cleaning that up piece by piece. Always nice to see them slowly go back together with such detail as what you are doing. Nice job!

Well, I don't hardly know what I'm doing really. I've got a grandfather and an uncle that know all there is to know, and old Ken Fox who I met here has been tons of help. Thanks though.

Thanks Chad. While I've got ya, milled 30 off the head, FC pistons, flame thrower coil, what do you think that will give me, and what else, (cheap), can I do to make her as strong as possible, still able to work, and pull better? I just heard from the IH man the other day that the RP RoundUp is here this year, I'm struggling to have her ready by then, but really want to pull! Maybe that big event isn't the best for a first timer?

Thanks,

Brian

When I seen the picture of the engine, I thought to myself,,, "He is gonna like that engine!" Do you have the bigger carb and intake for it? Now I know it takes away originality,,, but hey, the engine has to run right!!! Right?? LOL! On the IGN,, run a resistor on the power lead to the coil,, it will add time to your pick up and not be overloaded... you will still have plenty of juice to the plugs, but its easier on the system, and will last longer. You need to break it in right when you fire it up,,, so have some extra engine oil, filter, maybe a set of plugs, and a valve cover gasket,,, Once you get it warmed up really well the first time, go back and retorque every bolt you have had a wrench on. Cyl head bolts, and manifold bolts,,, drive shaft coupler if you had it apart,,, etc etc etc,,, then once you reset the valve lash, you can fire it back up and run it for a while,, under a load is best, but you need to get those rings broke in asap,,, best method is on a dyno,,, Be gentle,, you dont want to rush perfection,,,,, so run it at about 1/2 throttle with a light load for about 2 hours,,, change the oil,, check everything out,, no leaks,, etc etc,,, good time to pull out the plugs,,, check them for color, (fuel delivery) check the gaps,, which you can run up to .045 with the electronic ign,,, but try it at .035 to start with,,,, After that,, run it at a harder load, but still half throttle,,, for about 30 minutes,, let it cool completly. Once it has cooled off, repeat the load on the dyno for about 2 more hours,,, till you get about 10-15 hours on the engine. After that, it should be well on its way to a good break in, and may be ready for power tuning for best workable HP. Also,, do you have a H cam, or a SH-350 cam in it? Chad

You know, I almost bought a 350 cam for it, even had a guy that wanted to sell me one, but I just ran low on funds and went with the original. I think I remember you telling me to do that long ago, wish i woulda.

Thanks for other info, will be checking in regularly now.

That is the PERFECT event for a first timer. You will see things you never dreamed of. I go every year except will not make this one in PA as it is 1200 miles from our home in Kansas. I did pull a Super C and the golf cart to Mansfiled Ohio last year and that was about my limit, it was 850 miles one way. I do not claim to be any big time collector at all, that is not the point of these events, I just like to go and see what is there and take the Super C because it is small and easy to haul. You will see IH tractors in every state from trailer queen masterpieces to tractors that are still wearing 60 year old original paint and still used on a daily basis and everything in between.

If they have a pull at Bloomsburg, don't be afraid to hook up to the sled. It is all in fun, anyhow.

Hey JD,

Oh I'm going, just wonder about pulling there, If I get her done, I most probably will.

Isn't it at Camp Atterbury in Indiana this year? I'm going to go check after I write this, but my local IH man justtold me the other day that it was going to be here.

Where in KS are you? My grandparents farm is in Chase county, between Florence and Emporia on Hwy 50.

See ya,

Brian

Leavenworth county, just about 20 miles straight west of Kansas City.

We went through Indiana, I think it was I69 (may be wrong) that went northeast out of Indy, we took to a smaller highway that led us in to Mansfield, Ohio from the west. I like that state of Indiana a lot.

Reading a little closer I see you are referring to the Indiana Chapeter's roundup and not the national in PA. You would fit in real well at either one with your H.

See Ya!
