I have been looking into a loader for our 424. I read most of the posts in the archives, and it appars a 2000 loader is to heavy, but it appears they made several loaders for 40 hp tractors with model numbers 1500-1700? Are these hard to come by? unfortunatley I am not one of those people that "price is no object" LOL (retired) Any other used models that would do a good job? Thanks in advance.

Have a 464 with a nice little Freeman loader. Going to sell the loader-probably tractor & loader. s.w.Pa.

Hi Gary,

I"m curious why you think the 2000 IHC loader is too large. I have one on a 2424, and I"d say it"s about right.

I guess it would depend on how much you intend to lift. Obviously, there have been many small tractors that have had these loaders installed on them. I went back and read all the posts in the archives and I noticed several comments about about how light the rear end would get with the 2000 loader and how the tires would spin unless a large weight was addeed to the rear. There were also several comments about how hard it had been on the front end. In the interest of safety, it seemed to me that a lighter loader might be best.

The early (before the 424 & 2424 tractors came out) factory parts book for the 2000 loader shows the loader was intended for 240, 340, 404, 460, 504, and 606 tractors. My 2424 came new with the 2000 loader. So I"m convinced the 2000 was intended to fit the 424 / 2424. Now I totally agree that too much loader is a problem for any tractor because the rear end doesn"t have enough weight for normal traction. The loader parts book shows a weight box for the back of the tractor, and almost any tractor with a loader on it needs a LOT of extra weight on the back. Most industrial backhoe/loaders work successfully only because they have the entire hoe hanging back there to counterbalance the bucket. Anyway, a lighter loader sure won"t be a problem, but if you run across a 2000 series it should fit up nicely and won"t overload your tractor if you put some weight on the back. My opinion anyway....

Good luck,

Larry

For a photo of a NEWER loader fitted to a 424, take a look at ebay (completed) auction #270078946156.

For a NEW loader that will fit, take a look at ebay auction # 320086120592, for a Bush Hog 2426 loader. Big $$$ there, though!

Gary years ago a lot of the small utility tractors, the Masseys and IHs were fitted with Freeman loaders, a sort of a "fit-all" loader. Tom

Hugh Should Have Been Along Last Night. in reply to Gary in Mozarks , 02-24-2007 10:23:18
Gary, I know nothing about the loader but do think Hugh would have enjoyed the dinner last night. I thought the whole "fatted calf" was on my steak platter when it came out. And if Paul gets up this way as well we can just cut his up and share it as he'll be checking out Hugh's legs under the table. Great dinner and we'll have to save that place if Hugh ever gets down this way for a Friday or Saturday evening. Hope you are keeping dry up your way, Hal.

Jimmy: He is rather trying for those of us that have increased bit around the waist over the years.

Hal and Gary have been putting out a lot of energy this winter, rebuilding equipment, thus they need a lot of nourishment.
