Jon, My 1942 M had one on it when I bought it. It is a Luber-Finer filter. I have not looked too hard to find a replacement filter, but I suppose it filters better and longer than the original. I also bought a few other housings of eBay, one NOS with the original decal, filter, etc. I am toying with the idea of setting up all my M's with them so I can use the same filter in all.

Yes,had a customer send me one last summer thinking it was something OEM for his.
It is an aftermarket conversion,Luber-Finer maybe but I can`t really remember.
I ended up getting him a used OEM setup from Wengers in PA.

You younger fellows havent seen all the goodies that were sold makes your engines last forever use this magic oil and bla bla bla there were lots of stuff sold in the 40s and later miracle additives and the list keeps going. We just used original standard stuff and never had breakdowns so forth. Our B and the M ran every day from MARCH-DEC then almost every day in the winter grinding feed, hauling feed, manure pushing snow and on and on. They were never in repair shop as we just took care of them. Cleaned battery posts every fall and spring and just took care like you were supposed to. Never set out in weather. Dad always said take care of the machine and it will take care of you and it worked. Things were sure different no live hy or pto or powersteering cabs and even 6v.

Is that one of those toilet paper filters? Looks like they could stack one on top of the other.
