A condesor can be problematic when it gets warm. I had a motorcycle years ago that would run just about 45 minutes, exactly, then shut down. No spark at plug.Wait an hour, run 45 minutes again. It drove us nuts. Bench checked all the electrics. All checked OK. But when I finally changed out that "good" condensor, the bike ran perfectly.

James: I'm wanting to get the sequence straight, correct me if I'm wrong, you shut it off after 25 min of running, and it wouldn't restart or did you shut it off for 25 min then it wouldn't start. Correct me on which it is.

If a warmed up tractor doesn't fire up immediately I would suspect the coil, although I'm not certain 25 min. would warm it up enough to cause coil to act this way not the first time anyhow. Usually we think of that happening after 2-3 hours of operation. If this happens again, don't crank starter more than 10 seconds, turn the switch off, walk away and come back in an hour. If it fires right after sitting for a hour, definitely the coil.

Bear in mind I'm not saying the other guys are wrong. You may have that problem. You may also have both problems, however what I suggested will sort out whether the coil is a culpert.

James: Next time try not to run battery down, see if it will start on starter after it cools off a bit.

With a moderately low battery, the voltage goes down to about 4.5 volts when starting (the starter draws massive current reducing a low battery's voltage dramatically. The ignition is confronted with insufficient voltage to fire the coil across the plug gap. It won't start. Pulling it allows the battery to put all its attention on the ignition, so it starts immediately.
I believe your charging system is not working correctly. See John T in the search for box above to get a very complete charging system analysis to print out. By the way changing to 12v can be an advantage, but you need to understand how first. A six V with nice fat OO gauge cables will start them every time. JimN

Switch it to twelve volts and be done with it. I did this and it starts beautiful every time and I was able to keep my generator.

Your battery may be too low on voltage to provide
enough voltage for your ignition. By towing the tractor you not only crank the engine, but you are
generating voltage. Check the specific gravity of the battery with a hydrometer and compare the readings to one another. Should be close to a reading of 1.250 or better with a fully charged battery. You may have a weak condenser or a carburetor flooding problem too since it wouldn't start when the engine was warm. Hal

Hi James, My M done the same thing 7 or 8 years ago. It was loosing spark to the points as soon as you tried to start it. You could check points with a screwdriver and points fired properly, but when engageing starter points died, it nearly drove me nuts. It turned out to be the voltage regulator I dont know why or how, but I replaced regulator and it has started every time since. Also while I was having this trouble you could pull it 3 feet and it started right up. This may not be your problem I dont know. Just my 2 cents worth.

A bad condensor can also act like this. Crank all you want, even jump it , and it will not fire. Pull it two feet and it running.

I have never had a condensor do that. I have had several condensors go bad but they would never start again.
