I recently found a Farmall H that I think I can get pretty reasonable. The serial # is 44506. It has an X3 with the numbers. Can anyone tell me what this means and if it makes the tractor more rare? Thanks for all your help.

Russel make sure not to give to much. If they need a lot of work it will run in to a pile of money. It is gratifying to take an old relic and bring it to its former glory.Good luck and ask these guys about things you dont know most every one here has something to offer.

Thanks for the info. This older man has an M,Super C and the H. I want to buy as a package deal. The M runs but needs work. The SC runs and the H I don't know. They all are rusting away in the woods behind his house. I might get lucky. Who knows!

Russel, I forgot to mention I bought a 1944 H recently with the shutters, minus starting tank with decent tires and two row cultivators for 600 dollars.

According to Guy Fay's"International Harvester Tractor Data Book" the X3 suffix on tractor serial numbers means that it came from the factory as a kerosene burning tractor. When I was growing up in the 1950's, everyone in our part of the world burned gasoline in their tractors and when they were overhauled, (about every 3-5 years, depending on how much usage it got) the tractor was converted to the best power option that was available. Yours has probably been re-fitted with domed, over sized pistons, so it would have little or no additional value today. Now if it has never been "opened up", still has its shutters, its starting tank & original pistons, it MIGHT be a little more valuable. (My $0.02 worth. jal-SD)

Hi Russel. You have a 1940 kerosene model. There were a lot of kerosene tractors in this time period as it was cheaper than gasolene not anymore though. It is probably set up for gas now.
