D. Slater informed me that my serial number chart is wrong. Could someone tell me the last serial number for 400 and 450. I have what I think is a 400 with 450 emblems on it. According to my chart the 400 stopped at 38861 and 450 at 26066. The tractor in question is over 30000 which would make it a 400 if my numbers are right. Thanks, George

A 400 will have casting codes of 11-22-Z, 11-22-A or 11-22-B. Those indicate 1954, 1955, and 1956, respectively. With that serial number, I would expect "B" codes.

Georgeky, hoped you would get some answers from several different people by now instead of depending on what I post. Your date code sounds about right and tractor serial # would be for a 400. Several minor differances in 450 and 400 farmall but unless someone really done some switching look at the lever on end of T/A clutch operating shaft on left side of clutch housing and the rod from T/A handle hooks to one side of it. On a 400 it has the # 359907R1 . 450 has # 366352R1. Not going to say following numbers are 100% correct but best I know. Farmall 400 last serial # 41485. Last Farmall 450 # 26067. I have seen 400 tractors over 41000. On the C 281 engines in original late farmall 400 tractors as another posted, Im not going to say it never happend but never found any proof that they did.

I am sure it is a 400. I have not seen any 400 with a 281 in it either. My chart shows the numbers I posted earlier I was wanting to find out the correct numbers so I dont give any wrong information. I see your chart and mine differ on 450 also mine says 26066 only off by one. I did see a 400 with traction control fasthitch I did not check the engine. Did late 400 have this hitch all others I have seen had the older style hitch. Thanks guys.

If it is a late 400 it will have the 281 motor same as the 450. If the block has 264 cast into it then it definitely is a 400. There usually is date codes on the castings and the actual date somewhere on the transmission casting. I am not sure where and what but you should be able to find some info on date codes.
