I have a 1950 Farmall M which I finally got running, but it kept shutting off after a few minutes of running, It was not getting fuel because the strainer was getting full of debris, It looks like rust, but I don't know how to get it out, I flushed it(the fuel tank that is) and it still keeps clogging. How do I get it clean, or at least stop it from clogging? Thanks a lot!

i have found the ultimate way to clean your gas tank. Ive tried teh muratic acid with mixed results, i had alot of grime in the tank so it didnt wash the best. However, I take about 5 gal of diesel fuel, throw in about 4lbs of lug nuts and then strap the whole tank to the dual of a tractor, then i went and disced a 20 acre field. Came out like new. For getting the lugnuts out, just take a stick magnet, takes about 5 min to get them all out.

quick fix is screw out the sediment bulb assy ans put a short length of rubber hose 1/2 in as a standpipe make gas inlet higher. Another way would be to remave the fuel line from the tank to the carb ans replace with rubber hose and a see thru filter in-line so you can see when it gets clogged the filters only cost around 2-3 dollar.

There are several methods, all involving removal of the tank: muratic acid bath; sloshing a mix of gravel and kerosene in the tank; dropping a length of chain in the tank with kero and sloshing. Slosh until smooth and clean; Or, have tank boiled out at a radiator shop. I highly recommend a gas tank sealer after treatment. mike

Try the archives. This comes up here about every 8 weeks. Lots of answers there.
