460 gas if it matters, no provision for safety wire. Do I need to use locktite on the rod/main bearing bolts -- what color?

None needed , just make sure what style bolt you have on the rods as they had two differant blots used , one was what is called a PLACE BOLT and the other was a PATCH BOLT also look the bolts over for any stretching and replace anythat you have doubts on torque to spec. put the pan on and run it like ya stole it if ya got it wright then she will live a long life if ya did not then ya built a hand gernade.

I doubt you would need any loctite, but you could put a dab of the red on the threads. Tank engines used the safety wire and the Air Force had a special tool for twisting that wire. We did it by hand. Some of those tractor engines used the self-locking nuts. If they were not loose when you did the teardown on this engine I don't think you should too concerned about them coming loose. Hal

Thanks--My Super H has the safety wire, I did not disassemble it, and do not know if it came from the factory that way.

I think safety wire was used on some of the early IH tractors. I remember the MagMan had that on one of his tractors, can not remember the model of the tractor. We had an ice hit here last week. PA was hit hard with trucks and cars stranded on three major highways.

We received more snow and then some rain and then it all froze. Even had a man killed in a sledding accident. He worked at the same place where I retired from. Hal
PS: It's near 50 degrees today.

The ice we got Dec 30-Jan 1, followed by two 6 inch snow storms finally started to melt the end of last week. Lot of runoff and standing water in fields that I didn't know water would stand in. Ground was frozen down to 18-24 inches so it takes it a while to soak in. Never saw a spring thaw like this in KS before. Only problem is it's not spring yet. Had a month and a half of days where it seldom got above freezing, unusual for here.
