How do you get the wheel bearing race out of hub without destroying the grease retainer thats behind race?

There are a couple of notches in the grease retainer, just run a long punch in that notch and tap on the race, alternating sides untill the race is out.

Most of the time the seal is replaced when the hub is disassembled. If the bearing race is driven out with a brass drift from the opposite side, the seal often pops out any way often not dammaged. Getting it out cleanly may require a slide hammer with a home made spoon that can go behind the seal to gently work it out. They are pretty inexpensive, so why not replace it. JimN
