for the life of me I can not remember I am trying to tell my dad over the phone how to do this.
he has the gear lube drained out and the fill plug on the top out but isn't there a full level plug on the left side of the rear end that is the full level plug? pull it out and when the gear lube comes out it is full?
I know my Cub is like that.
Can anyone help me out?
Chad

Chad, If you have a belt pully that should be drained seperately using the small pipe plug on the bottom of the belt pully gear box. It should be filled seperately using the plug on top of the belt pully gear box also so that those gears are being lubed until the fluid from the tranny can get back there. Just pour a cup full or so in there. Hey, where in MI are you from? I live in Ravenna MI. Dave.

Yes, there is a small plug on the left-hand side of the transmission, behind the left side brake rod.

Takes around 5 quarts as I recall.

Dave: For some strange reason, some A and SA don't have that fill to level plug. There is a flat surface on casting but the hole was never drilled. My SA is this way. Once when I had it drained, I put the 5 quarts back in, then took an old Chevy V8 dipstick, made a mark on it for full. That has been hanging on my shop wall for 20 years.

I cant remember without going to look, but I believe I was able to cut end off the chevy dipstick and use the full mark currently on it. I'm not going to look this afternoon, that south wind coming across Lake Erie is damn cold.
