OK guys - Here is my 1st attempt at getting my modest collection of Farmall stock and 12 volt conversion wiring diagrams back online! Was forced into this on account of the disappearance of Photopoint a few weeks ago. The link below should take you to the new diagrams. ...Bob M

Anyone have a wiring diagram for a 12v alternator system on a 656?

Bob, thanks for posting these picutres. 1 question for you. My 52 Super A has had the generator removed and someone has wired the coil right to the starter. In effect, this should completely bypass the on off switch right? It also appears that it has been hooked up as a negative ground. Does this matter?

Bob, It seems you have vast knowledge on this so share some with me if you can. My Farmall M has 12 volt on it and the diagram of the wiring is similiar to your 12v alternator w/magneto key switch and push to stop switch is the closest. The problem arose when it stopped charging. My alternator has a 2 wire plug and the battery terminal on it. The 2 wire plug was run to a black box (about 2x3 inches)and connected to the 1 & 2 post(it has 4). I have taken out the run to the black box and rerouted one to the battery and one to the switch (on/off)(This is how my dad's M was run). Now the unit charges but the amp gauge is pegging out at around 20 + amps. I would guess if the box is a magneto box that the alternator has a voltage regulator built in. There was no ballast resistor on it so I installed one but that caused the tractor to miss. I guessed then that the coil is 12 volt and I was only sending 6 volts to it. I guess my question is what is the magneto used for and is the amperage too high. Also could the black box have been a voltage regulator instead of a magneto? Any help from anyone would be greatly appreciated. Keep up the good work!

Bob, My M has the regulator on top the generator. 6 volt pos ground. H-L-D-B switch. On/Off switch wired to neg. side of coil. Wire to Batt. term. on regulator and coil and the Field term. are the only wires that come to the front of the tractor. My Regulator has no L post. Where do I wire that Field wire. Does it go to the generator F post and then jumper wire to the F post on the regulator? Or wire the thing like it has a mag. Thanks for your help and taking the time to post the diagrams.

Willie - Punch below for the diagram I think is right the right one for your M. It's for an A or B, but an M of the same era is wired the same.

Hope this helps...

Bob M,

I recently restored a 1941 Farmall B. For now lights are working off the battery and ammeter is working.

I have a rebuilt 6 volt generator rebuilt and a working 6 volt regulator with two terminals. I am assuming that one of the terminals on the regulator is a BAT connection... not sure what the second terminal is intended for. The generator has two terminals labled A & F.

I would like to confirm the proper wiring schematic for reinstallation of the generator and voltage regulator.

The link posting a Farmall B diagram does not seem to be working. Any suggestions? I am able to follow written instructions as well.

Bob,

I have my M wired with the original 6 volt generator that was converted to 12 volt. I put on a new IH 12 volt light switch like on the 400. The light switch is a little different. Battery ignition. I am not quite sure what I have done wrong to make it not charge. Any guidance is appreciated. Thanks again,

DAVE

Hey Paul - Two reasons I decided to try Epson PhotoCenter as a replacement for Photopoint: 1 - It runs on the same software platform Photopoint did so it's got the same "look and feel". It thus has a much shorter learning curve for a software slow-learner like me. 2 - It's FREE! (at least now anyway!) ...Bob M

I followed you over to Epson, Bob. And I did think the site was "hauntingly familiar". Let's hope the similarities stop there! I'm having a heck of time finding all those digital files. floppies on the shelf, laying beside the computer, some on the home computer, some at work..... .....
