Jumping dead battery

What will go wrong if I jump a 6 volt Cub from a 12 volt car. Seemed to work fine once, a long time ago, started right up, but not sure if it's bad for the system?

Another thing you can do, it involves a little trouble, but I have done it a lot of times. Get an extra old 6v battery, and using jumper cables hook the tractor battery, and the other old 6v in series. (requires an extra jumper cable) Then you can use your 12v car to jump it all day and it won't fry anything. The old 6v battery acts as a buffer and you are actually charging 12 volts, however only 6 are going to your tractor battery.

I used to jump my 300 RC (6V positive ground) using a 12V battery as follows: 1)Connect one lead of a jumper cable from the negative terminal of the 12V battery to the cable stud on the starter, 2) turn on the ignition switch, 3) set the throttle to the desired position, 4) have a free hand to run the choke, 5) touch/hold the other lead (positive) of the jumper cable from the 12V battery to the tractor frame. As soon as the tractor starts, pull the positive lead away from the tractor frame. This keeps any sparks away from the tractor battery, prevents burning away of material from the battery posts or starter post when the electrical circuit is completed, and applies the 12V to the 6V tractor for a very short time. My $0.02!

Here's how I did it:

Run a cable from the negative post of the car battery to the negative post of the tractor battery. Next, run a cable from the positive post of the car battery to the FRAME(fender, etc.) of the tractor(since Cubs are positive-ground). Don't put it on the positive post of the tractor battery - if the connection sparks and the battery is putting out a little bit of hydrogen gas, KABOOM!! You won't like it a little bit - if you survive the battery explosion. Reverse the order of connection to disconnect the cables. Don't let it run on the jumpers any longer than necessary, or you'll fry the coil and burn the points.

If your Cub is negative ground, just follow the instructions above, with the exception of clamping the positive cable to the tractor battery and the negative cable to the tractor frame(fender, etc.)

the guys here told me how to do it if you have a + ground then take the - cable off the batt and hook the - jumper cable to it and take the + jumper cable and put it on the + cable that is still on the tractor batt then use your starter button to start the tractor as normal when it starts take bolth jumper cables off and rehook your - cable to batt it worked fine for me and by taking the one cable off the batt it is not in the circut thus wont blow up on you...sHan

Have also done it, but sure would not make a habit of it! And NEVER for more then a few seconds.
